Oxted Band is pleased to announce the latest ‘Stars of Brass’concert to be held on Saturday 16th April, starting at 7.30pm in St John’s Church, Hurst Green (Surrey) RH8 9EA.
Our soloist this year is Ben Dixon, principal E-flat tuba of the World Famous Black Dyke Band. Ben joined Black Dyke in 2013, and following 3 years studying performance at Salford, he received the Harry Mortimer Brass Performance Prize and the Roy Newsome Conducting Prize. He is now continuing his education at the Royal Northern College of Music, studying for a Masters degree in performance. We are looking forward to continuing our series of world-class brass soloists appearing with the band.
This year is our MD, Darrell Scholes’, first Spring Concert having joined us in May 2015. He brings a wealth of brass band experience, and after a busy summer of fetes, bandstands and local events, we are building on his first concert last Autumn when we featured soloists from within our ranks. The programme will include traditional brass band items, music from the classics and from popular shows and musicals. We are sure that there will be something for everyone! Tickets are £10 for adults, £5 for children, and are available from 07584 246501 or on the door.
We look forward to seeing you in April for what promises to be another evening of sparkling brass fare from Oxted Band and our special guest soloist.
Prior to the Spring Concert, the band will be making their annual appearance in the garden of co-chairman of West Ham FC, David Gold, on Sunday 10th April. Mr Gold, who lives in Caterham, opens his garden every year in aid of the National Garden Scheme charity and St Catherine’s Hospice.
