The Band of the King’s Division is the British Army’s first professional brass band, with some of the country’s finest brass musicians within its ranks.

Proud of its South Wales roots, this ensemble also dares to step out of the traditional brass band genre to deliver a tantalising mixture of both blockbusting and beautiful music that amazes and captivates its audiences wherever it performs.

The origins of Tredegar Town Band can be traced back to 1849, although it wasn’t until 1876 following victory at the Welsh National Eisteddfod that they were formally constituted. History shows that early contesting victories were sporadic, although they did compete extensively – from local competitions to the famous Crystal Palace in London.
Tredegar Band and their Musical Director Ian Porthouse have earned a worldwide reputation for artistic innovation and excellence, with recent projects including the ground-breaking ‘Dark Arteries’ ballet and a movie appearance in the hit British film ‘Pride’.

EVENT CANCELLED
After careful consideration of our duty of care to participants and volunteers, and consultation with local councils and other advisors, scaba has made the difficult decision to cancel both the Southern Counties Youth Band (SCYB) Easter Residential course and the Solo, Quartet and Ensemble competition due to take place in April.
In light of increasing concerns about, and spread of, the COVID-19 virus, we felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation. We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold these events for the young players and community bandsmen and women in our area, but I am confident that we have made the right decision based on the available information at this time.
Plans will be made to reschedule both the Youth Band course and the competition later in the year, once the situation becomes more stable.
