Formed in 1893 as the “Southern Counties Amateur Bands Association”, scaba is the local association for brass bands in the South East of England. Any brass bands in the counties of Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Dorset, Essex, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, London Boroughs, Middlesex, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Sussex and Wiltshire are eligible for membership.

scaba has always been a very active association and works hard to put the interests of its member bands and brass players first. The association is a member of Brass Bands England (BBE - formerly the British Federation of Brass Bands) and has representatives on the committee of the London & Southern Counties region of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.
scaba is proud to have formed the Southern Counties Youth Band in 2014, providing young players from all over the region with an opportunity to learn from talented brass teachers and musicians and perform to new audiences. More information about the youth band can be found on the SCYB page of this website.
A year in the life of scaba typically includes three brass band contests: the Spring Contest which in 2018 is moving to February, the Entertainment Contest in May and an Autumn Contest in late September. We have an annual Solo and Quartet contest which will be returning towards the end of 2018, and our year is often rounded off in November with a Workshop.
