UPDATE 22nd April 2020

The scaba team have been meeting over Zoom during this time of Lockdown and our AGM, originally scheduled to take place earlier this month, will now be held online on the evening of Sunday 24th May.

The AGM will hear annual reports and elect Executive committee positions and a new representative to the London & Southern Counties Regional Committee, to replace our Secretary who resigned her position last month. The meeting will be followed by an Open Forum which is an ideal opportunity for people to share thoughts and ideas about the future of our local bands and Association.

Member bands are encouraged to get involved and use their vote; their band secretaries/contest secretaries will receive official notice and an agenda 3 weeks before the meeting. Anyone with an interest in local banding is welcome to join us; if you'd like to take part please contact our Secretary Alex: secretary@scaba.co.uk.

ABOUT US

Formed in 1893 as the “Southern Counties Amateur Bands Association”, scaba is the local association for brass bands in the South East of England.  Any brass bands in the counties of Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Dorset, Essex, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, London Boroughs, Middlesex, Surrey, Sussex and The Channel Islands are eligible for membership.scaba works hard to put the interests of its member bands and brass players first, and there’s a lot more to us than just contesting! The association is a member of Brass Bands England (BBE) and has representatives on the committee of the London & Southern Counties region of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. A year in the life of scaba typically includes brass band contests, a Solo and Quartet competition, monthly rehearsals and an Easter residential course for SCYB, workshops and our new Non-competitive Festival, #BordeHillBrassFest.

scaba is run by a team of volunteers and we can't keep going or offer more services to our local bands without some support! Membership of the association helps to support all of our activities including the Southern Counties Youth Band and development of new, no-competitive events.

In return for a small subscription, members of scaba enjoy the following benefits:

♪    Free advertising on the scaba website and social media

♪    Discounted subs for SCYB

♪    Free information, advice and resources

♪    Priority entry and discounted tickets for workshops and other events

♪    Priority entry and discounted fees for scaba contests

Membership of the Association is just £90 a year for Senior Bands and £45 for Youth Bands (with discounts for connected groups).  The application form can be downloaded HERE.

The Southern Counties Youth Band

SCYB was set up by scaba to encourage young brass players to improve their playing ability and to have fun making music.

The band meets once a month on a Sunday from September to April, ending with a residential course and public concert at Easter.

Membership of the band is open to anyone aged 11 to 18 who plays a brass band instrument to at least grade 4 standard.  Look in the SCYB section of the website for more news, photos and information & application packs.
