The scaba AGM will be held online via Zoom on the evening of Sunday 25th April..
The AGM will hear annual reports, elect the Secretary for a period of 3 years and elect Executive committee positions. The meeting will be followed by an Open Forum which is an ideal opportunity for people to share thoughts and ideas about the future of our local bands and Association as Covid restrictions begin to be lifted over the course of this year.
Member bands are encouraged to get involved and use their vote; their band secretaries/contest secretaries have received official notice and an agenda by email. Anyone with an interest in local banding is welcome to join us; if you'd like to take part please contact our Secretary Alex: email@example.com.
Formed in 1893 as the “Southern Counties Amateur Bands Association”, scaba is the local association for brass bands in the South East of England. Any brass bands in the counties of Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Dorset, Essex, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, London Boroughs, Middlesex, Surrey, Sussex and The Channel Islands are eligible for membership.scaba works hard to put the interests of its member bands and brass players first, and there’s a lot more to us than just contesting! The association is a member of Brass Bands England (BBE) and Making Music UK, and has representatives on the committee of the London & Southern Counties region of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.
scaba is run by a team of volunteers and we can't keep going or offer more services to our local bands without some support! Membership of the association helps to support all of our activities including the Southern Counties Youth Band and development of new, no-competitive events.
In return for a small subscription, members of scaba enjoy the following benefits:
♪ Free advertising on the scaba website and social media
♪ Discounted subs for SCYB
♪ Free information, advice and resources
♪ Priority entry and discounted tickets for workshops and other events
♪ Priority entry and discounted fees for scaba contests
Membership of the Association is just £90 a year for Senior Bands and £45 for Youth Bands (with discounts for connected groups). In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, membership for all bands who took up membership of the Association in 2020 was extended to 2021 with no additional charge.
The Southern Counties Youth Band
SCYB was set up by scaba to encourage young brass players to improve their playing ability and to have fun making music.
The band has not met since the outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020; plans for activities later in 2021 will be communicated as restrictions are eased and banding begins to return to in-person activities and full indoor rehearsals.
Membership of the band is open to anyone aged 11 to 18 who plays a brass band instrument to at least grade 4 standard, and players from scaba member bands benefit from discounted subs. Look in the SCYB section of the website for more news, photos and information & application packs.
