A Busy Summer in Chichester

Chichester City Band, founded in 1897, has been enjoying a busy Summer Season with appearances at local fetes and shows in their locality, including the successful defence of their Tug-o-War title at Sidlesham Fete! The band is now eagerly looking forward to their forthcoming appearance at the National Finals (Section 3) in Cheltenham, their first visit for a number of years.

Whereas competitions tend essentially to be for the players’ (and hopefully the Adjudicators!) enjoyment, Chichester City Band is also highly committed to providing audiences with entertaining, memorable and professional musical performances wherever they go and are fortunate to enjoy the expert tutelage and guidance of a highly talented and experienced Musical Director in Rom Stanko. Hailing from the cradle of Brass Banding in the North of England, Rom has been inspirational in enhancing both the band’s repertoire and standards of performance.

In addition to opportunities for experienced brass players, the organisation also includes two non-contesting bands: Chichester City Community Brass for rusty returners and players who don’t enjoy competitions; and Chichester City Elementary Brass which caters for beginners and younger, less experienced players. Rehearsals for these groups are held at The Lodge, Graylingwell, Chichester on Thursday evenings and are directed by experienced teachers. The main band currently rehearses in Bognor Regis but negotiations are in progress and they are hopeful, in the not too distant future, to be able to announce a new venue nearer to their home city of Chichester.

The band is particularly looking for trombones, cornets and tubas but offer a warm welcome to keen players of all brass band instruments and percussion.
