Oxted Band Autumn Concert

Despite an arson attack on Oxted Band’s band hut on the afternoon of Wednesday 5th October, causing damage to the rear of the band room, their Autumn Concert will go ahead as planned on Saturday 29th October at St John’s Church, Church Way, Hurst Green, Surrey, RH8 9EA at 7.30pm.

The damage to the hut was not as bad as it could have been, and the fire brigade were on hand quickly to put the fire out and limit it to the rear of the room. However the water used has caused a soggy mess of the room and of some of the music, and the band is assessing what they have lost. Obviously they cannot rehearse there for a while, but the generosity and support of the local community has been very strong, and they have been given the use of the school hall at Holland School for rehearsals up until Christmas.

The theme of this year’s concert is CLASSIC BRASS. The Oxted Band will not only be showcasing music from the great composers such as Dvorak and Borodin, but will also feature classics from the brass band repertoire including one of the all-time favourite marches, The Contestor by TJ Powell, and modern classics from the likes of Lennon & McCartney. There will be music to suit all tastes, and something for everyone to enjoy.

Refreshments will be served at the interval, and tickets at £10 for adults (£5 for children under 12) will be available on the door.
