  SCABA Entertainment Contest, Results

SCABA welcomed David Horsfield to The Hawth at Crawley for their 27th Entertainment Contest held on Sunday 18th May.  David certainly didn’t show any signs of being pen weary after his stint in Dobcross on Whit Friday.

Appropriately Brighton & Hove City, conducted by Matthew Hackett took the theme of the Whit Marches for their performance and they were rewarded with a third place and the best soloist prize which went to their principal cornet, Martin Buss.

It was a sad day for Kevin Webb and Chichester Youth Brass as it was their last Entertainment Contest as a Team.  Promotion is in the air for Kevin so he hands over the reigns of his young team, but they went out on a high with Kevin winning the best Compére trophy and Elizabeth Arnold taking best soloist (cornet) prize.

The Hawth at Crawley celebrates their 20th anniversary in 2008 and to mark the occasion their Promotions and Entertainments Manager, Dave Watmore arranged for a short concert to be given by the juniors of two local bands, Patcham and Mid Sussex Brass.  Sandra Clinton and Peter Mansfield respectively were on hand to guide their young people.  We met their youngest players Alex Baker and Connor Sheehan.  Unfortunately neither could remember how long they had been playing but both agreed it was a long time.  Alex is five and  Connor has just become six!!
