LGB Brass prepares for crowd-pulling Proms

LGB Brass, based in Lewes, is rehearsing hard for its biggest concert of the season.  The regular Proms in the Paddock, held this year on Saturday July 12th, attracts an audience of more than 1,000 local people.

The event, held in the paddock park in Lewes, was developed by LGB Brass and the local Commercial Square Bonfire Society and is now in its sixth year.  This year the band is delighted to be joined by singers from East Sussex Community Choir, also based in Lewes.

The programme includes two concerts – one by LGB Brass of popular numbers from film and stage and one by East Sussex Community Choir.  The two groups of musicians then come together for the popular Proms part of the evening, for traditional favourites including Land of Hope and Glory, Jerusalem and Sussex by the Sea.  The evening ends with the 1812 Overture played by LGB Brass with fireworks from Commercial Square Bonfire Society.

LGB Brass secretary, Jane Waldron, said: “Proms in the Paddock is one of the highlights of our calendar. It is a great opportunity to introduce a huge audience to the great sound of high quality brass band music.”

Gates open at 5pm and the music begins at about 7.30pm.  There will be a bar and barbecue.  Tickets are £5 (£2.50 children) in advance from Harveys Shop, Richards Butchers, Con Club, Elephant & Castle, Gardners Arms and Lewes Motor Factors, all in Lewes.  Tickets are also available on the gate at £7 (£3.50 children).
