  SCABA Spring & Entertainment Contests

SCABA would like to invite your band to take part in two of the most popular brass band contests in the South of England, namely the SCABA Spring Contest and the SCABA Entertainment Contest.  Both of these events are long-established and enjoy the support of bands from near and far.

The first of the contests, the SCABA SPRING CONTEST, is being held on Sunday 6th APRIL 2008, at HOVE TOWN HALL.  This venue offers all the facilities we need, including an excellent auditorium, rehearsal facilities, instrument storage, trade stands, refreshments and a bar.  A large car park is located immediately opposite the Town Hall.  For those who want to get out and about, whilst in Hove, there is plenty to see and do in the immediate area and all the delights of Brighton are only a few minutes walk away.  The format of this contest will be, as usual, an own-choice March and an own-choice Test Piece.

The second event, the SCABA ENTERTAINMENT CONTEST, will be held at its traditional venue, THE HAWTH, CRAWLEY, on Sunday 18th MAY 2008.  The Hawth is one of the best theatres in the country and is ideally suited to our contest.  Everything is under one roof and there is a large car and coach park in the theatre grounds.  This contest consists of an own-choice “Entertainment Programme” of 24 minutes duration, with open adjudication.  Bands are organised into two sections and separate time limits apply to the “stage setting” and “performance” elements.

All the information you need to know about the two contests, including the SCABA contesting rules and the Entry Forms, can be accessed under the "Downloads" section of the website.

Negotiations with adjudicators are still on-going and their names will be published as soon as possible.

Hopefully, you will want your band to take part in these two events, so it would be wise to get your entries in as early as possible.  For the Entertainment Contest it is, as usual, “first come, first served”.  Should you need any further details, or have any queries, please contact Ian Carter (SCABA Secretary) and we look forward to welcoming you to the 2008 SCABA Spring and SCABA Entertainment Contests.
