Friary prepare for life at the top

Friary Guildford Band will have their first taste of life in the Championship Section when they compete in the London & Southern Counties Area Contest at Stevenage on Sunday 20th March.  The Band will have an open rehearsal to run through their test piece as well as lighter items on Sunday 13th March at Greenfield School, Brooklyn Road, Woking from 3.00p.m. to 5.00 p.m.  Members of the public are most welcome to attend.  Entry is free, and light refreshments will be available for a small donation.

We’re back – did you miss us?

I am sure that many of you noticed that the gremlins crept into our website last week – seems we are in good company, another far better known brass band website has had the same kind of issues recently!

Thanks go to our Webmaster, Matthew Ruel, for beating them into submission and getting the site up and running again.

This Sunday, 20th February, sees the Solo, Quartet & Ensemble contest at Ringmer Community College.  Jane Stewart, our Contest Manager is delighted with the number of entries.  Melvin White and Dennis Wilby will be sitting in the respective boxes sorting the runners and riders into the right line-up.

Fairey Footsteps at Friary!

Latest recruit to high flying Friary Guildford Brass Band is Matt Gilbert, who joins them as a solo cornet player.  Matt, who moved to the area 5 months ago, previously played for the top flight Fairey (Geneva) Band based in Stockport, now the current English National Champions.  Matt started his banding in the West Country, later moving to the Midlands to play with Jaguar (Coventry) Band.
