Artistic Development with Philip Harper (BBE Training Day – South East) @ The Hawth
Jan 20 @ 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Philip Harper, MD of the World no. 1 Cory Band, will discuss the importance to artistic leaders of self-learning, curious listening and wild imagination, as well as covering the basics of ‘on the ground’ artistic direction as a conductor working with bands in rehearsals.

Each topic will be illustrated with practical examples, including a live rehearsal session with a band, and demonstrations of how Cory Band has learnt to market itself in the 21st Century.

This training day is open to all, but is particularly aimed at Musical Directors and band committee members.

The Hawth Brass Season – Cory Band @ The Hawth
Jan 20 @ 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Cory regularly wins both domestic and international brass band competitions and performs a widely varied repertoire of music at home and abroad to a professional standard. The band seeks to grow its artform with powerful and inspiring experiences for its artists and its audiences.

Proud of its South Wales roots, this ensemble also dares to step out of the traditional brass band genre to deliver a tantalising mixture of both blockbusting and beautiful music that amazes and captivates its audiences wherever it performs.

The 2018/2019 Brass Season also includes Grimethorpe Colliery Band (18 Sept 18), Desford Colliery Band (7 Oct 18), Band of The King’s Division (18 Nov 18), Brighouse & Rastrick Band (Sun 10 Feb), Tredegar Band (Sun 31 March) All concerts start at 3pm.
