Boobs Going South!

Boobs & Brass will be making its first appearance south of the Watford Gap on Saturday 13th September at St. John’s Church, West Byfleet, in Surrey.

The all-female band, Boobs & Brass, was formed by Margaret Betts and Jane Nichols in Northampton in 2006. Their dream was to recruit enough brass-playing girls to form a band to perform in a one-off concert, raising funds for Breast Cancer Campaign.

There was so much interest in that band that one concert led to another, and another, and Boobs & Brass has now gained huge recognition for its charity work. Boobs & Brass has raised nearly £142,000 so far and show no signs of slowing down, with a new line-up formed using players from brass bands in the South of England.

This new branch of the Boobs & Brass movement has been organised by Gill English, tenor horn player from Horsham Borough Band who has been part of the original Boobs & Brass band for 5 years. Over 80 women responded to Gill’s appeal for players at the scaba Autumn contest, and the band is now rehearsing for its first concert which promises to be a lively, engaging performance!

The concert, a mixture of entertaining classics and lighter pieces, will be introduced by Carolyn Oldershaw and conducted by Dennis Wilby.
