Covid-19 and Social Distancing Update

In recent weeks there have been a number of changes to the guidelines issued by the Government and DCMS (Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport) with respect to permitted activities, and a great deal of confusion about how these affect music-making in general and brass bands in particular. The scaba team all share our members’ keenness to get back to group playing and frustration with the mixed messages coming from the government and other advisory bodies, and we have been keeping a close eye on how current law and guidance affects banding.

Making Music have revised their guidance for amateur groups, based on the information available from DCMS, on 20th August. This update includes clear information about how all non-professional music groups in England* may now meet to rehearse: Making Music guidance
(* guidance differs for bands in Scotland, Wales and areas of England subject to local lockdown measures)

The full government guidance, last updated on 13th August, can be accessed viewed here:  DCMS Performing Arts guidance
