Fairey Footsteps at Friary!

Latest recruit to high flying Friary Guildford Brass Band is Matt Gilbert, who joins them as a solo cornet player.  Matt, who moved to the area 5 months ago, previously played for the top flight Fairey (Geneva) Band based in Stockport, now the current English National Champions.  Matt started his banding in the West Country, later moving to the Midlands to play with Jaguar (Coventry) Band.

“I’m delighted to join Friary Guildford Band at a time when they’ve been promoted to the Championship Section,” said Matt.  “They’re a band with great drive and ambition and I’m looking forward to doing my bit to help continue the success they’ve been enjoying.”  Band Chairman Tim Gregory added:  “It’s a real coup to attract as good a cornet player as Matt.  He’ll be a real asset to the Band now that we’re up against Championship opposition.”

Friary Guildford Band will have their first taste of life in the Championship Section when they compete in the Regional Finals at Stevenage on Sunday 20th March.  The Band will have an open rehearsal to run through their test piece on Sunday 13th March at Greenfields School, Woking, from 3.00p.m. to 5.00 p.m.  Members of the public are most welcome to attend.  Entry is free, and light refreshments will be available for a small donation.
